Principal Investing

Seed Stage - Our seed-stage investing activities are conducted through our affiliate, Leap Ventures. Leap Ventures provides capital and mentoring support to pre-prototype companies. Through a three to six month development process, a founder takes their concept from idea to working prototype.

Early and Growth Stage - To minimize potential conflicts of interest, our work with early and growth stage companies is centered exclusively on our management consulting clients. We typically acquire a stake in each client and work with them just like any other portfolio company with a focus on long-term value creation.

Later Stage - We also opportunistically evaluate acquisitions of or investments in later stage, cash flow positive businesses. We seek situations in which the current owners desire to restructure their debt with “patient capital”, complete an add-on acquisition, or partially liquidate their holdings for estate planning purposes. While we always seek acquisitions with solid teams in place, we also utilize our skills and expertise to further improve the operations, systems, and financial processes of each acquisition. The ideal partnership is with owners desiring a long-term partner to work with them to take their company to the next level. We seek acquisition candidates that fit within the following general criteria:

  • Cash flow (measured as EBITDA) of $500,000 to $1.5+ million per year
  • Solid core management team in place and willing to remain post-closing
  • Unique competitive differentiation and customer value proposition
  • Established industries such as manufacturing, information services, financial services, and distribution

Dedicated Capital Pools

Through Ideation Capital Management, LLC, a registered investment advisor, we have the capability to assist large individual and institution investors with the building and management of their own dedicated capital pools - often referred to as family offices or captive pools. This service enables the investor to remain involved in the process, but with the benefit of additional professional oversight of their portfolio.
